S&J Hardware (http://www.sjhardware.com) is a Canadian manufacturer & retailer of firearms accessories and other shooting-related products. They offer a number of add-ons and replacement components for shotguns, including a line of magazine extensions for the Remington 870 and others. A lot of S&J Hardware’s products have proven popular in the 870 community, such as their magazine followers and Velcro shell carriers, and I’ve personally used several of their accessories for years with good results. Their magazine extensions always sounded really good on paper, but I really hadn’t seen them in the wild much, and had no personal experience with them. This came up in a discussion on the Rem870.com forums, and soon afterward, Scott Mueller, S&J’s United States distributor (http://www.sjhardware.us), contacted me asking if I would be interested in having one sent over for evaluation. Obviously I was interested.
Usually, the magazine extension is first upgrade which every Remington 870 owners installs:

The shotgun magazine tube extension and magazine tube follower is very important for reliable feeding but there is one element which is often overlooked by shotgun owners. The magazine tube spring is one of the very important elements which can dramatically improve feeding. Either that or it can be the cause of numerous malfunctions. Many no-feed problems are often caused by short or weak magazine tube springs.
There are many manufacturers of the magazine tube springs but I think that there are only two companies which manufacture the best magazine springs for shotguns: Nordic Components and Wolff Gunsprings. These two companies are well known for their high-quality firearm related products. Wolff Gunsprings makes many types of gun springs including magazine springs for shotguns. This company is well known for their springs and many shooters choose their products. Nordic Components makes magazine tubes and magazine springs for firearms. Their springs quickly became popular because they are well made, include protective coating, and don’t weaken over time.
The TacStar Barrel/Magazine Clamp is for those who like simple solutions. This clamp is the most affordable on the market. It serves the same purpose as other shotgun barrel/magazine clamps – to hold and stabilize the magazine extension.
ISeeInHD posted a question about the +1 round extension for Remington 870 Magpul Edition on Remington 870 Forum. jdinny posted picture of his 870 with Wilson Combat (Scattergun Technologies) plus one round extension:
Magazine tube extensions for 20 Gauge Remington 870 shotgun
If you own a 20 gauge Remington 870 then you may be interested in magazine tube extensions for your shotgun. These extensions basically add extra rounds to your shotgun’s magazine tube. The extension tube gets mounted right underneath the barrel, which is where the magazine tube and fore-end are located. A normal magazine tube on a 20 gauge Remington 870 can hold four rounds of ammunition. So if you were to add a 2-round extension tube to the end of it then it could fit six rounds of ammunition instead of 4 rounds. This is a lot of ammunition for a shotgun to shoot without having to reload it. The differences between the tubes have to do with the number of extra rounds they can give you and what gauge shotgun you have. The 12-gauge extension tube with two or three rounds for the Remington 870 is the most common and it is priced at about $75.

This post is about the most popular Magazine Extensions for Remington 870 Shotgun.
There are many magazine extensions available on the market today. New extensions are introduced regularly. I have tested many of them myself, some of them were tested by readers of the Rem870.com blog.
The best magazine extension is the one that fits your shotgun perfectly. Some people like when mag extension is flush with a barrel, some like when extension is little longer than a barrel.
