What is shotgun sidesaddle and why you need it?

A shotgun sidesaddle is a convenient accessory for shotgun owners because it gives them the ability to carry more ammunition right on their weapon. That way, they don’t have to put down their weapon to go looking for more ammunition insidesl a bag or something. They can just take a shotshell right off the sidesaddle that is attached to their shotgun, load the shotshell into the chamber and then fire away. This saves them quite a bit of time in the reloading process because they don’t have to go far to get more ammunition for their weapon, since the shotshells are stored right there on the weapon itself. If you are a soldier on the battlefield, a law enforcement officer, or just somebody who needs to be able to reload quickly, the shotgun sidesaddle is an invaluable necessity that you must own.

The Remington 870 is an adored pump-action shotgun that is used by hunters, police officers, target shooters, competitive shooters, and military officers. But like any good weapon, it needs to have a suitable safety button that someone can switch on and off in a moment’s notice. You don’t want to have the risk of not being able to push the button fast enough when you’re in a hurry or desperate situation. The factory safety button that comes with the Remington 870 is a perfect example of this. A lot of owners claim this factory safety button is too small for their fingers, which causes them to waste precious time by having to bring the button close to them and push down hard on it. If you’re in a combat situation or need to shoot something quickly, you must be able to keep your hand on the handle while disengaging the safety at the same time. This can be done with your thumb if the safety button on the weapon is big enough.

All of the available oversized safety buttons are made for right-handed shooters only, check following article if you are left-handed: Left Hand Safety for Remington 870

Tip: Add some oil on the new safety button for smoother work when replacing factory safety button.

Vang Stainless Follower for Remington 870
Vang Stainless Follower for Remington 870

The one of the followers I didn’t have experience with was the Vang Comp Systems stainless steel magazine follower. I have finally bought it several months ago.

First of all it requires a small modification – you need to polish sharp edges on the front of the follower. After this you will not have any problems with it. This is one of the best followers I have ever used.

VCS follower is made of steel and slides inside the magazine tube very good. After a hard use of this follower, I can tell you that it will not stuck and will work perfectly.

It is made of metal, it is sturdy, reliable and virtually indestructible.

Highly recommended product for any tactical or home defense shotgun.

Standard safety button on Remington 870 is too small. It is difficult  to find it under stress or wearing shooting gloves. But this problem is very easy to fix. There are several alternative oversized safety buttons on the market. I have tried all of them and want to tell you about the one I like most.

Remington 870 Photos, Sage International Extension, Forend Strap, Vang Comp Follower

J.R., thank you very much for the great photos!

From J.R.:

“The Vang follower works excellent, I cycled 21 rounds with no problems & the big hole is a good indicator of a unloaded weapon. The sage mag tube is excellent quality although it has a phosphate finish so it looks gray but that’s OK with me and if someone didn’t like it a little BBQ paint would fix it right up, it comes with the nut, barrel & mag clamp which has a sling mount & +3 spring. Just so you know I will be getting a 20′ barrel like yous with rifle sights to match the +3 tube. I also attached a pic of the forend strap I installed. I saw one on a moss I had to have it! It is nothing like the moss version, I did this my self & cut slots in to the forend & used sling screws on the strap. Love the website & I love my 870!”

There are several important things you should know about the Knoxx Specops stock for Remington 870. If you know your equipment, its weaknesses and strengths you can use it better and avoid mistakes and when we talk about weapons even injuries.

Attention: When we talk about Knoxx stock, be sure to check which one you have. There are two types of the Knoxx stocks, one has built-in recoil suppression system, and the other one don’t. The Knoxx stock which doesn’t have the recoil suppression systems is “Knoxx Adjustable NRS Stock”. The NRS stands for “No Recoil Suppression”.
