New big article about hearing protection. The noise level of the shotgun shot is more than 150 dB. The threshold of pain is considered to be 140 dB. This means that shooting without hearing protection can cause sudden hearing loss with complications.

I decided to test Surefire Earpro Sonic Defenders. They are inexpensive, compact and block loud harmful sounds. These earplugs are little different from regular ones, they have retention rings that lock the earplugs in place.

As you know, I think that MSA Sordin Supreme Earmuffs are the best hearing protection the money can buy.

There is one thing that you can upgrade even in these top earmuffs. There is MSA Sordin Supreme Gel Ear Cushion Hygiene Kit which comes with gel spacers. Shooting Hearing Protection (Earmuffs, Electronic Earmuffs, Earplugs, Combat Earplugs)

This post is about a must have for all shooters. It is hearing protection.

All shooters and hunters should be very careful when shooting, loud sounds can damage hearing permanently.

There are several ways to protect hearing: earmuffs, electronic earmuffs, earplugs and combat earplugs.

Electronic Earmuffs
First earmuffs on picture are electronic earmuffs by Peltor. They are great, they allow you to hear everything and even make sounds louder (you can set volume). When you shoot electronic earmuffs block loud sounds. It is little difficult to wear them all day but they work very good.

Second earmuffs on picture are made by Peltor too but they are simple earmuffs without electronics. They block all sounds, so it is difficult to hear what happens around.

Combat E-A-R Plugs
These earplugs allow you to hear all sounds and block loud ones. They are better than ordinary earplugs.

Ordinary earplugs which block all sounds, they are small and easy to use.

I recommend to use electronic earmuffs because they offer the best hearing protection possible. There are a lot of different models of electronic earmuffs available.
