8 Best Remington 870 Upgrades In Stock (2022)
Rem Arms (Remington Firearms manufacturer) started to make guns again. But there are so many parts and accessories that are out of stock. It may be really confusing because it is so difficult to find Remington 870 parts, for example.
I have hand picked the most popular upgrades which can be purchased right now. Enjoy the list and get upgrades for your Remington 870.
1. Magpul Stock and Forend for Remington 870
The Magpul SGA Stock and MOE forend are two upgrades you’ll want to add to your Remington 870 shotgun. When they first came out in 2011, it didn’t take long for owners of the Remington 870 to learn about them and replace their existing OEM stock and forend with these two newer parts. Once they did, they quickly learned how high quality they were and why the reputation of Magpul is justified when it comes to their gun accessories and upgrades. Although Remington had their own stock and forend available for their 870 shotgun model, they soon realized that more shotgun owners were starting to prefer the Magpul stock over their own. That is why Remington created a new version of their 870 model called the Remington 870 Magpul Edition. This particular version contains the Magpul stock and forend already built into the weapon.

2. Carlson’s 18-1/2″ Barrel
ATTENTION! Remington 870 Barrels are Out of Stock Everywhere But You Can Still Get Aftermarket Barrels
Brownells has listed very interesting aftermarket barrels for Remington 870. Short barrel with the option of changing chokes makes shotgun more versatile. You can control spread using chokes which is important for hunting and home-defense. Tighter pattern is very good idea for a home defense shotgun.
This Remington 870 barrel is Constructed from ordnance grade 4140 steel. Chrome lined bores makes these barrels better than factory ones.
18.5” barrel length is the most popular choice for home defense shotgun.
Also, you can choose Carlsons Remington 870 barrel with non-adjustable front sight or adjustable sights
Includes installed Carlson cylinder choke tube. Choke tube is constructed of 17-4 stainless steel. Remington barrels are threaded for the standard Rem Choke system
JonSEAZ, one of the Rem870.com readers shared his experience with Remington 870 Carlsons barrels:
“I recently bought one of these barrels and an array of Carlson screw-in chokes. At this point, I could not be any happier with it. A very nice barrel, inside and out. The one I received fit my 870 perfectly; the exterior finish flawless; the chrome-lined bore nicely done; the threading cleanly cut and the chokes screw in and out nicely; overall, a very nice barrel which now allows me to play with different chokes on a nominally defensive shotgun.
I would recommend this barrel to anyone wanting the option of changing chokes on an 18.5″ barrel.”

3. Volquartsen Extractor
One of the simplest ways to improve your shotgun’s performance is to change a standard MIM (Metal injection molded) extractor with non-MIM (solid steel) extractor. Steel extractors are used on the Remington 870 Police shotguns because they are more durable and allow heavy use of a shotgun.
If you have an existing Remington 870 with an MIM processed extractor then it is easy to replace it with the EDM processed Exact Edge Extractor. Just check to make sure your existing extractor is MIM-extractor because this is the specific part that the Exact Edge Extractor was made to replace in a standard Remington 870.
It works as good as non-MIM extractor and way better than standard MIM extractor. Standard MIM extractor often causes fail to extract problem. Replacing MIM extractor with Non-MIM extractor often solves this problem.
Highly recommended upgrade for any Remington 870/1100 shtogun! Please note that Remington 870 Police has more reliable non-MIM extractor installed from the factory.

4. Brownells Stainless Steel Magazine Follower
When you hold it in your hands you feel that it is heavy and reliable, it is thick and made of stainless steel, it is even thicker than Vang Comp Systems follower. Looks good and works well, I didn’t have any malfunctions during the tests. Brownells Magazine Follower has grooves and will work with Remington 870 shotguns which have dimples but don’t have extension.
Brownells Stainless Steel Magazine Follower is very good alternative to Vang Comp Systems follower. It is machined, it is stainless, it is thicker than Vang Comp Systems follower. It will last forever.

5. Timney Remington 870 Trigger Fix
The Timney Rem 870/1100/11-87 Trigger Fix is designed to provide a light, adjustable and smooth trigger pull/depression. It is a “drop-in-kit” with a fully adjustable trigger pull that will help you maintain proper trigger control. The kit includes three different weight springs that lower the factory trigger pull to two, three or four pounds. The replacement kit also allows for fine-tuning adjustment using the adjustment screw and the included hex-head wrench. The springs are color coded for easy identification.
“Jerking” the trigger is a very common problem especially with new shooters. A heavy trigger pull may cause you to exert enough pressure to where the weapon actually moves off target. Re-engaging the target is also another problem when the trigger is jerked not only do you miss the target with the shot but maintaining your natural point of aim is difficult. Having more control over the trigger means better accuracy and in some cases, accuracy can make a substantial difference in the outcome.
The trigger fix is ideal for home defense weapons, waterfowl and big game hunting. Use the Timney Rem 870/1100/11-87 Trigger Fix to improve your shooting and to break the habit of jerking the trigger.

7. Choate Magazine Extension for the Remington 870 Shotgun
Choate extension is inexpensive and works properly but you need to replace magazine follower and spring.
Clamp (with swivel)
Mounting screw for clamp
Orange follower with tail
This is one-piece extension made of metal. It is available in polished blue or matte blue finish.
The price is about $40-50
Thanks to Wesley Stump for this small review:
The first thing I noticed upon receiving the extension was that they had sent me the matte blue finished tube instead of the regular blued finish I had ordered. Not an issue as far as quality goes, but aggravating none the less. The tube comes with the appropriate length spring, barrel clamp, and plastic shell follower (orange in color). All of which were of high quality except for the follower.
The follower seems to be an injection molded piece and had some excessive flash from the mold which affected the fit it with the mag tube. The follower was too right and was going to require modification to work properly. I ended up using the factory Remington follower.
Overall I’ve been happy with the product, the tube and spring are well made and I haven’t had any feed issues at all using the Choate tube, supplied spring and my factory follower.

8. Surefire Forend Light for Shotguns
Surefire Forend Light – is one of the popular choices of the light for a tactical shotgun. It is well-known, it is reliable and compact.
The Surefire forend light for shotguns is a specially designed “forend weapon light” which integrates the light and the forend together into one unit. This is different than a tactical flashlight which gets mounted onto the forend. The Surefire forend light is an upgrade for your shotgun’s existing factory installed forend. This means you will have to know how to disassemble your weapon and replace the forend that is already installed. The Surefire forend features a forend made of durable polymer with a light source built in that can shine a bright blinding beam of light in front of it. There are also switches on the forend to make it easy for the shooter to control the light. With the Surefire forend, you’ll never have to worry about mounting your tactical flashlight ever again.
Surefire currently has two forend light upgrades available; one for the Remington 870 and the other for the Mossberg 500/590. The Remington 870 forend light is a LED light which contains a maximum output of 600 lumens and a minimum output of 200 lumens. You could use the light for an estimated three hours without the quality of the light diminishing in any way. If you put the light on high the whole time, expect it to only last for about 1.5 hours. Once the light goes out, you can easily replace the batteries inside of it with two CR123A batteries. A package of two typically costs about $13 at your local hardware store. As for the Mossberg 500/590 forend light, it contains the same specifications as the Remington forend light. The only difference is that it’s made for the Mossberg shotgun model rather than the Remington. The bezel ring which contains the light inside the forend is 1.37 inches in diameter. The same goes for the bezel ring on the Remington as well. While this may seem small, it casts a pretty bright light that allows you to see what’s in front of you perfectly.
The cost of the Surefire forend light is currently priced at $395 for each on the Surefire website. This might seem like a lot but don’t forget you are getting two upgrades for the price of one. You are getting a durable polymer forend that is easy to grip and a powerful light that shines brightness even in the darkest of night. If you are an avid shotgun user that likes to hunt at night or simply wants protection in case an intruder breaks into your home at night, the Surefire forend light is the best upgrade you’ll ever make to your shotgun.
This forend is one of the best but the most expensive choices when you want to install flashlight on Remington 870.
Surefire forend is bright, reliable, compact and very easy to use.
