Magazine cap detent
Magazine cap detent
Several gun parts stores show a picture of a stemmed detent for the 870 magazine cap. Others show just a round ball bearing like detent. Which is correct for an older 870? Did newer models use the stemmed detent and earlier models just the ball bearing? Help appreciated. Thx
Re: Magazine cap detent
I've had no call to remove a mag cap detent on a newer 870 but, if a ball is used, I would bet that it's on newer model.
I have had several older 870's to reblue and all have had the pin type, staked in.
It might also be that whoever put the schematic together was lazy and grabbed a block of a ball to insert for a picture.
Edit - I just hopped over to the Numrich site and they show a ball in the schematic but if you click on the part #40, the detail part pic is of the pin type.

Re: Magazine cap detent
Remington went away from the ball-detent as it was more difficult to machine then the in-tube nylon ratchet end. You're kinda stuck with whichever version you have.
