Greetings

Post by #1buck »

Hello everyone. I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself to this forum and give you all a little bit of background. I went on my first hunting trip when I was three and have been interested in firearms of all kinds ever since. I was given my first shotgun an Ithaca M-66 when I was eight years old in 1966. I purchased my present 870 express model 25077 new back in 2011. Other than the finish it is a great shotgun. I ran across this website looking for an accurate manufacturing date for my 870 and found this forum while I was researching the subject. Best I can gather it was built in 1998 which seems a little strange to me since I purchased it new in 2011. Anyway I am open to suggestions anytime and will offer mine if needed. Take care everyone and happy trails.

Thanks for the welcome TexasArmor84. No problem providing a image. Pretty much a stock 870 Express. I have added an XS Big Dot front sight since this image was taken

It's because you're entering the letters of your serial number into this site's lookup feature, which is meant to decode barrel date stamps, not serial numbers. Serial numbers are on the receiver and have both letters and numbers, while barrel date codes are on the barrel and only consist of 2 - 3 letters. They're not the same thing. A serial number for a 2011 870 would start with the letters "RS", and if you run that as a barrel date code, it decodes as November 1969 or 1998.

You're not the first person to be confused by the incorrect use of the term "serial number" on the barrel date lookup page. I've told Vitaly multiple times that the wording on that page needs to be fixed.
