New to 870s, Missouri

Post by Silver »

Hey guys,

Recently picked up a 870 Wingmaster for $150 from my buddies coworker. Its in great condition, the bluing and original wood furniture are still in great condition as well with minimal marks or scuffs. I plan on this being a project gun for myself, right now its got a 28 inch barrel. I would love to make a more home defense setup but keep the original barrel for hunting purposes.

The serial number S265481V. I think I dated it to 1970. But any input would be excellent.

I'm thinking as far as my modifications go:

Extended mag(I'm thinking Choate or Nordic)
18-20 barrel, any suggestions on where to get it?
Different furniture( I like the magpul SGA, hogue, and some of the express lamenated wood) I will be keeping the original furniture as well
Upgraded follower

I will post pics up soon! Thanks guys

An "S" prefix on the serial number points to a manufacture date range between 1968 and 1974, so 1970 sounds right. The "V" at the end means the gun was built for 2.75" shells only. Non-magnum 870s can be converted to cycle 3" shells, but stick with the 2.75" stuff unless you can confirm that yours was converted.

For new barrels, you'll have the best selection ordering from Remington. Information for finding and ordering parts can be found in this thread. You can save some money buying used barrels, just make sure you know what you're getting.

Check out the factory Remington extensions as well. They're a little old-school, but in a good way, just like the 870 itself. They're all-steel, modular, and reliable, having been developed for military use with 2.75" shells.

Includes all of the following;

Mesa Tactical LEO 870 Adapter

Asking $150.00 plus shipping on it, or I will trade for an FDE Magpul 870 stock.
