Birds head 870
Birds head 870
I decided to build another 870 out of a wood stocked Express Magnum with a 28 inch barrel. I traded for the 18 inch parkerized Police barrel (thanks Chief Brody) and added a factory Remington tactical forend. I added a S & J follower and non MIM extractor. I have a Choate fixed pistol grip stock and an ATI M4 style stock, but just wanted something different. I ended up ordering a Shockwave Technologies Raptor birds head style grip. This gun is almost 31 inches long. I'm still looking for a +2 mag extension to finish out this project. Can't wait to try it out!

Looks cool
but I prefer traditional stock, easier to aim and control recoil.

I totally agree! I've got another 870 that I use for HD, 18 inch barrel, mag extension, and Hogue 12 inch LOP stock and forearm. This is something I put together just to play with. Hope to shoot it this weekend.

Re: Birds head 870
That's pretty cool. One of these days, when I can find a good deal on an old wooden stock, I'm planning on making a bird's-head grip for my shotgun. I do have a Hogue pistol-grip that's fun enough, but it makes it awkward to reach the slide release and with my big hands, I have to shift my grip to work a standard flush safety. All my muscle memory was developed with semi-grip stocks, and I prefer the way the gun handles with a more traditional grip angle. Besides, an old-school wooden cob fore-end & matching bird's-head grip just gives a shorty shotgun some real panache.
