Good evening all,
There was a person experimenting with cutting portions off a magazine tube spring a little at a time and see how far off they could cut it and still do what is was meant to do?
Everyone knows it's squirrelly to put in the spring and probably ties in knots inside the tube. Has anyone had any success chopping small amount off and if not, is there a plastic guide rod available sort of like the 1911 to straighten the spring to straighten out while putting in and still working correctly?
Thank you
Smoker

You can get a follower with a shaft on the back to keep the spring from binding.

Re: magazine tube
If your magazine cap or extension has a hole in the end, you can insert a rod through there to help straighten the spring during assembly. Once the magazine is put together, the spring shouldn't have enough lateral freedom inside the tube to buckle.
Magazine springs can be cut down to reduce their solid length, but the minimum functional length will vary depending on the spring and the magazine configuration. If you can fit the desired number of shells in your magazine, and insert them without excessive difficulty, you probably don't need to cut down your spring.
