Magpul forend for Remington 870 Super Mag
Magpul forend for Remington 870 Super Mag
I have a Remington 870 12 guage super mag. I want to put the Magpul MOE forend on it but Magpul's website says it won't work with the super mag. I've seen however that with some slight modification, it can be fitted to a super mag. I just can't find anywhere that tells how to do it. Anyone know what I need to do? Or if it's even possible? If you can just tell me why it doesn't fit then I can figure out the rest.

Re: Magpul forend for Remington 870 Super Mag
I haven't worked with any SuperMag 870s personally, but I believe the problem is that the SuperMag fore-end tubes come closer to the front of the receiver when all the way back than the standard tubes do. Fore-ends that are meant for the standard tubes tend to hit the SuperMag receivers before the tube is all the way back, and so the action won't cycle properly. I've heard of people removing material from standard fore-ends to allow the extra bit of travel without interference, but the specifics will depend on the fore-end. Also, if your fore-end isn't solid, this procedure could make it structurally unsound, and is probably a bad idea. I don't know if the Magpul fore-ends are solid or not, but since they have that rear hand stop that fits against/over the receiver, adapting it for a SuperMag may be more involved than something simpler like a SpeedFeed LE fore-end.
