blackhawk knoxx spec ops generation II build question

Post by ChadATL »

I'm looking at turning my 870 Express Magnum into a tacticool HD gun. I'd like to put on the Knoxx recoil suspression stock and a shorter barrel.

The questions I have are,

I've heard something about a oversized safety, do I need to change my safety?

Any thoughts I who has a good price on 18 inch barrels? I was going to try this place.

Looks like they have a good price for the stock and barrel.

Any other thing I should know before I start ordering stuff and having to return something?

There was one oversized safety that was recommended to use. That was the Wilson Combat (Scattergun Technologies)

Also. The forend will need to be fitted on most 870's. Since it is included free with the stock feel free to cut it a bit. I can give you more info if needed. Takes only a few minutes to get it right.

So do you know if it's required? Any idea what happens if I don't use it?

An aftermarket safety is not required. Some people prefer them because they provide a bigger button that's easier to hit, but I think many of them will interfere with the Knoxx stock. That's probably the issue you've heard about. If you don't have an aftermarket safety, you should be good to go.

That is correct. The stock safety is fine. And oversized will not allow the SpecOps stock to snug up unless you use the Wilson Combat.

Thanks, that answers my questions about the stock. Now, what do you think of the barrel I have selected in the link? Any pro's or con's? I'm just looking for a 18 inch barrel so I don't know if I have tunnel vision as to what else I should be looking for.

The only other mods I see in the future is an extended mag and maybe a mounted flashlight. I don't see having a sight since the gun would never really leave the house for the duty it's built for.

If you have any suggestions, I'd like to hear them.

I have the 870 Tactical and it came with an 18" barrel with a 6 + 1 capacity so I really dont have much insight into a barrel or extension. But there are many others that do. But I can say that a shorter barrel is what I would want in the house.

Well I have a question for you. I bought my 870 for $250. If I buy the knoxx stock and barrel, I'll have $500 into the gun. Do you think I'm putting to much into it? I don't know what you paid for yours, but I'll have a tactical with the original parts to change it back whenever I feel like it. I wonder what I could get for it if I ever sell it. I know it's not an investment but I don't want to lose too much money if I ever have to sell.

Well I paid $429.00 a couple of months ago for a NIB 870 Tactical. Here is a list of what I have done so I don't expect to turn it around and make a profit. So I guess I have a little under $900.00 into mine. I just wanted to make it "make it mine" as they say. I could probably get my money back out of it as is or parted out in the current climate that we are in today. So no, I don't think that you have put too much into it. It all depends on what you expect out of it and how deep the pockets go... lol
