I've never tried them and everything I hear is a no-go in an 870. There is an aftermarket bump stop for Mossberg' that prevents the full length cycling of the shell. Nothing out there for Remingtons.
Personally I don't see the point. If you cannot end a threat with 6-7 full size rounds an extra few at half strength are not going to change the equation, You have already either succeeded or failed.

I ran 30 to 50 shorties in my Police vet Wingmaster with no issues, both without and with extension (crimped in Choate, fell apart in same range session). Both slow fire, and as fast as I could cycle. No issues.
However, as was mentioned above, great for the range, but would not use for "business" unless there's nothing else.

You can 100% shoot mini slugs out of any 870, theres just way to much space inside the reciever for them to be properly guided to the chamber.
Cycle too hard, or don't have the gun properly leveled and they will either go cockeyed and hit the outside of the chamber at an angle or flip over completely.

As a range toy its not a problem - I like to practice clearing malfunctions this way.

In a SHTF situation you don't want to have to deal with that

Doom, my point exactly. I put my 870 and minis through paces specifically to have an opportunity to experience and work on malfunctions - just did not get a chance lol.

Shorties DO NOT reliably work in an 870 - the carrier will not lift and align them. If you want to use them, buy a Mossberg 500 or 590.
