870 Factory 8 1/4" Stock Bolt

Post by Deep Action Dutchman »

I've had a horrible time trying to track down this part for my favorite 12 gauge. Everything leads to waiting lists for parts out of stock. Hardware stores don't carry the 1/4 28 x 8' fine machine threaded bolts and the only all thread options online for making my own bolt run in the $50.00-$60.00 range. Anyone know of any places I can find and purchase to get my old faithful back up to snuff? All good leads are rewarded with the story on how it got bent in the first place...Much appreciated!

Where is the bend? Right at the top of threads, I suppose?

Couple of ideas come to mind. Put some heat on it until barely glowing and straighten. Or find longest bolt you can find with correct thread, cut off head, weld on enough of the original bolt to make it work. Both options will drive you crazy getting it straight.

Third option is find a used replacement part. I'll check what I have later. I have a couple of project buttstocks and think I may have one or two more bolts than I have 870s.

The bolt thread is an industry standard. Many different lengths available even at Home Depot.
