First Glock 19 - Tips?

Talk about other firearms: rifles, pistols etc.

Your Glock should not need anything out of the box to use for a range gun or home defense. It should run without issues right out the box. I think more along the lines of, what do you like to change pistols?

I acquired my first Glock last year, also a G19 in Gen5. I have about 500 rounds through it so far and it came with almost everything I needed, I bought it through the GSSF program and it came with 3 magazines, a brush and a simple magloader. About the only thing I might want to swap some day would be potentially night/glo sights, but the stock sights are fine as they are. Hope you enjoy it, I enjoy shooting mine just as it came out of the box.

Ok, so I picked up my Glock 19 from the shop and while I haven’t gotten to the range yet , after handling it a fair amount my thoughts are:

1. Overall feels pretty good as expected.
2. A few small drops of Gun Butter improved smoothness.
3. For me I think three small changes for better operating :
A. Extended Slide Release
B. Extended Mag Release
C. Slide Assist

And finally a light of some sort for those times one might need a light.

Thanks everyone for your input and thoughts.
Can’t wait to go shooting.

I ordered a TRL-7 light and a holster the would fit the Glock with the light mounted late November ... got real busy with things and family and such and by Jan 2 I realize it hadn’t come.

Checked tracking and it was lost Lord knows where in the delivery system. Called Amazon and they reordered the light, but couldn’t on the holster (unknown reasons). 2 days later my Glock has this awesome little TRL-7 light mounted and ready to go.

Now I need to find a holster 🙁

I have a TLR7A and it's terrific for the night stand gun. Carry gun is nekkid. Both have XS Big Dot tritiums with the stacked dots.

I had extended mag release, didn't like it so changed back to factory. Corners dug into off-hand palm. And stuck with factory slide lock because I'm trained to slingshot from lock, not push a tiny lever. And worse, my grip sometimes causes my thumb to put pressure on the lever already, prohibiting locking open on last round. I need a SMALLER lever, not larger.

Yes, if this was a carry gun, I’d likely skip the light , I’d also likely opt for G23 or such too.

I tried a Glock night sight, but just seems to tiny so I’ve ordered AmeriGlo Night Cap set. This is totally a Range and Nightstand Gun.

Also, that's a Glock 17. Did they sell you the right gun?

Yes, I’m aware it’s a 17.. originally I wanted a 19, but the 17 suddenly became available (around here Glocks can be hard to find) so I bought it ... and as you see, I still have a habit of calling a 19 🙄
