My tactical build, with some questions

Post by pug826 »

Hello all! I'm new here. I built up my tacti-cool 870 Wingmaster 12 GA here, and I completely understand a lot of people will think this gun is terribly ugly. I have weird taste for sure. I got an A1 stock coming in soon, to replace that terribly long LOP. Anyway, I got a Mesa Tactical high tube adapter, standard AR grip and a2 buttstock, scope mount, Tacstar 3 round extension, Laser Products (pre-Surefire) dedicated light forend, and wide trigger. I am going to get a 20in barrel without the sights. Question is, should I get a heat shield? What heat shields are the best quality? And I have asked around, but just for more opinions, what red dots are great, and can handle 12 GA recoil? But still fairly cheap? Like $250 or so.
Well anyway, here is my ugly rig lol.

Although my opinion may vary from yours greatly heres what i would do if i was you.

-Get an 18.5" bead sight barrel.
-Install an XS big dot sight on it.
-Ditch the rail and Pistol grip/stock.
-Install a Hogue shortened LOP stock.

Optional upgrades:

-Side saddle
-Oversized safety button
-Upgraded magazine follower
-Single point sling mount
-Crapload of ammo to train with

Hello and welcome!

What trigger is that? I've never seen it before.

Heat shield looks good and protects your hands from heat but it adds weight. I would recommend getting a plastic heatshield.

I would really recommend Eotech holographic sight. The price is higher than your budget ($375) but it is extremely reliable: http://tinyurl.com/a26gh3n

or Burris Shotgun SpeedBead red dot sight which is $249.99: http://tinyurl.com/azl3qbk

I have been checking those burris sights, they are really cool. The trigger is actually a metal cover that slips over the 870 trigger and is held in place by two set screws. My dad had it on his 1100 for over 25 years, so it's an old accessory. I can't find anything more about it, I have never seen one for sale anywhere.

I believe that's called a "trigger shoe". I installed one on an air gun I was building up. It made the trigger a lot more comfortable, more ergonomic. Can't say I've ever seen one on a shotgun, though.

Right on target Chief, it is a trigger shoe and they are extremely comfortable. The difference is kinda like sitting on a bicycle seat or sitting in an easy chair, what would your finger rather do? I have one on my 1100 that I used to shoot PITA with. They are still available (now in many colors) online for $20-$30 give or take. Just google Remington trigger shoe. :P
