Limited budget. Would like to stay within the $800 to $1,000 range. Don't mind a stamped receiver as long as the trunnions are forged and not cast. From research, staying away from Century, IO, and DDI because of cast trunnions. I have considered the Century C39V2; however, I have concerns about the heat treatment on the bolt carrier group. There are reports of some mushrooming on the bolt. Other than that, being a milled receiver, it would probably be fine for a starter AK, and frankly, they are rather sharp looking. I don't really care about the "traditionalist" view. No cleaning rod or bayonet lug on the C39V2 does not bother me.
Arsenal SLR 107-36 is a strong contender, with the stamped Bulgarian receiver, heat shield, and rails. It's a little over my budget, but Atlantic has them in stock for $1,149. I probably couldn't go wrong with that. Any comments appreciated. Going for an Arsenal is a stretch on my budget but really tempting.
