Looking for some old-style, pre-flex-tab action parts

Post by Synchronizor »

The flex-tab upgrade Remington made to 12ga 870s in the mid-1980s gets a lot of discussion time on this forum and others. It's the only really major design change made to the 870, and it addresses a noteworthy flaw, so it almost always comes up when someone is fixing up an old 870 for HD or competition, or piecing together an 870 from parts.

I discussed the flex-tab fix briefly in my shell carrier video, but that doesn't go into much detail or talk about sourcing & installing the new parts. I'd like to create another video that covers all this as a reference for the 870 community, but to do it properly, I'll need a set of old-style, pre-flex-tab action parts.

I don't have much of a budget for my videos, so before hitting Ebay, I figured I'd check with the community here. If you have any of these older parts lying around that you're not using and would be willing to donate or sell for cheap, I'd appreciate it. I don't care what finish the parts have, or what condition that finish is in, so long as they can function. If you're not sure whether or not your part is pre-flex-tab, I can help identify it.

The old-style parts I need are:

>Slide assembly
>Breech bolt (it can be a stripped bolt, I have parts I can swap in)
>Carrier assembly (needs to have the carrier dog, carrier dog pin, and carrier dog washer still installed)

I would also like to get a hold of an old-style fore-end tube assembly for this video. It does not need to be replaced as part of the flex-tab upgrade, but it does play into certain old/new parts combinations, and I'll need it in order to install an old-style slide assembly in my 870.

Are you in the Seattle area? I have a set that I'd loan you for making your video, but would want it back when you're done with it.

No, I'm afraid not. I'm at the eastern edge of the state, practically on the Idaho border. I do get over to Seattle occasionally, but not too often, and I'm not sure when the next time'll be. We'd probably have to do it through the mail or something, and I'm guessing you're probably not up for mailing the guts of one of your 870s to a stranger for a month or two.

Just an update. I've gotten a hold of all three old-style action parts (slide, bolt, & carrier), but I'm still looking for an old-style fore-end tube assembly.
