New 870 express synthetic tac

Post by RemSynthTac »

Hello from South Florida.

Great info on the site which I have been cruising for a while trying to decide on my first shotgun. Finally did decide and picked up a 870 express synthetic (tactical) last week and took it out shooting today. Great experience again at my favorite range - OK shooting in Okeechobee. RSO's out there are the best and today one of them walked me through the safety, handling, loading, aiming and firing procedures step by step. Gun worked flawlessly and just shot a box of 00 and a box of #8 to get a feel for the difference.

The tag on the gun said 870 express tactical and the label on the box says express synthetic :) It is a 4+1 and probably one the most basic models. Perfect for some upgrades I have planned in the near future.

Put some targets out at 30 feet and other than the first one I shot a little high (because I could not follow directions, not the RSO's teaching :), most of the others took out the bad guys. Here are the first ones I shot

Excellent choice and welcome to the 870 community.

Out of curiosity, what order number is that 870? Remington's website shows the 4+1 Express Synthetic 18" with the standard sporting synthetic furniture, but the gun in your picture has the same stock and SpeedFeed fore-end as the higher-capacity Express Tactical models.

Front bead sights can tend to shoot a little high or low until you put in the practice time to develop a consistent cheek weld, and work out where to line up the bead relative to the receiver. Once you get that figured out, it'll line up almost without conscious thought, and be surprisingly accurate.

What upgrades are you planning on?

Order Number 25549 - which on the Remington website brings up this:

Not my shotgun. Mine is closer to the 25077 without the mag extension. From web reading I think Remington has updated some 870 models (25549 and 25077) and not changed the pics on their site.

The only upgrades for now until I shoot some more are the Remington SuperCell Recoil Pad and a longer barrel for some trap/skeet shooting. Still need a good hardsided case. I bought a bunch of "upgrades" for a handgun I purchased last year and was sorry I did not wait until I put a good amount of rounds through it first.

That's what I figured. Remington isn't very good about keeping their website up-to-date.

That's smart. A lot of people will spend a ton of money on upgrades without ever firing the gun. Ultimately it's their gun and their money, of course; but real trigger time with the gun will almost always give someone a better idea of what they want to change on it. It also lets them break in the gun and take care of any associated issues before they start adding on odds and ends that can cause their own problems.
