new 870 express jamming
I have an Express that I have had about 4-500 rounds of various loads/makes through. Problem one: Every so often after a shot, usually 00 buck or a slug, the gun would jam. The action would be stuck in the bolt forward position and it takes a serious stroke, or beating the butstock into the ground, to get the thing to slide back.
Here's problem two: Just recently when I was showing my friend how to do admin loads and unloads with aluminum dummies, I could not get the dummies loaded into the mag tube if the forend was slid all the way forward. If i slid the forend back about 1/4 to 1/8 inch I could get the dummy rounds to load.
Problem three: Here's where it gets really strange. That same day, when I unzipped my case, I noticed a small pin about 1/8 inch long with tapered ends sitting in my bag. I totally stripped the 870, but could not find a place missing a pin.
Anyone have any ideas before I go to a gunsmith?
Gun is all stock inside. Only Mesa Tactical side saddle and Blackhawk gen 2 Knoxx recoil stock.

Check your barrel where the nutt holds it. The pin might have popped out. The jamming is probably a burr somewhere near the chamber. Check that tab behind the chamber. The shell rim expands and gets caught. When loading are you sure the action is totally closed? The extractor sometimes stops the action if theres no shell chambering. Not sure if that will cause the problem but its something to check.

Like Kentactic said, A popular cause of shells hanging up in new Expresses is a roughly-finished bit near the chamber. Generally, this issue arises when using really low-quality shells in brand new guns that aren't yet broken in. The problem usually goes away in time, but if you've put a lot of rounds through the gun and it's still happening, you can also grind down that rough area yourself.
If that's not what it is, can you post an image of the part?
That may be your ball-detent that helps lock down your magazine cap or coupling nut. If the guide ring on your barrel has an empty hole in its front side, see if that part will fit. There should be a spring in there as well, so look through your bag again if that's also missing.corymonster wrote:Problem three: Here's where it gets really strange. Now I have TWO pins! After taking the gun down, and putting it back together I was doing an ops check on it when I heard a rattling in the stock area. I shook it around some and another pin fell out! It fell out if the hole on the side of my Blackhawk Knoxx stock. In case you are not familiar, there is a hole on the side, more like a tunnel really, and it allows you to insert a tool to de-tension the stock for installation/ removal. I removed the stock, but cannot see where these pins might have come from....

I looked at your post, that picture you tried to link to seems to be an e-mail attachment, which isn't working for me. Try either adding your picture as a direct attachment to the post, or uploading it to an image hosting site.
There's really no way for something to move from inside the 870's receiver to inside an attached stock. It sounds like that second pin may be a part from your stock. Personally, I prefer basic furniture and a quality recoil pad on my shotgun, but I've heard mixed reviews on some of those fancy recoil-reducing stocks, so you may be having similar trouble.

Yes, that worked.
I don't recognize them. Is your stock still working as it should be? They look like the exact same part, so if you found one in your stock, the other might have come from there as well.

It seems to be working fine. I will have to take it out and shoot it again to see if maybe one of the springs is loose. I just emailed blackhawk to see if they recognize the pins. Do they look like anything that would come out of the gun- anywhere? Because I cant find a place for em!Synchronizor wrote:Yes, that worked.
