extractor installation problems

Post by PRicanHeRo »

I purchased a Non-Mim extractor and installed it with no problems thanks to Vitaly's video. When i push it back, it gets stuck in the open position and I have to push it forward and it will snap back home. Will this be a problem?

yeah id sand the bolt or extractor a bit. look for a high point and sand/grind/file that first.

I sanded the non-mim extractor. I never touch the bolt, because I want to make sure I can use the original mim extractor it came with, just in case the non-mim extractor ever fails. I would try to compare the thickness, shape and width of the mim to the non mim extractor. Also if you keep moving the non-mim extractor in the bolt, you should see scratch marks on it. Sand the scratch mark down until the non-mim extractor moves freely with out a scratch on it. Remember to sand slowly. You can always remove, but never add again. So do it right the first time :D

What ever flaw is in what ever part thats creating the problem. If theres an obvious high point thats causing the issue on the bolt then id sand that rather then sand down the entire extractor to accomidate it. If theres a high point on the extractor then sand that. Use sand paper, a hand file, dremel, etc etc... what ever is needed to do the job. We dont know because were not holding your gun right now. But one thing is certain, somethings causing it to bind.

Thx will try.
Not for nothing but when you buy an 870, you become a gunsmith in training. Between the extractor and the freaking dimples, WT@.

I am having the same problem with a 1995 Remington 870 that originally had a mim extractor. How did this thread work out? Any update? I tried a old 1960s extractor in this gun just to see and it works but this new Remington extractor I got sticks open. I think Remington is making a cheep part, non mim or not.
