Remington 870 Alternatives

Post by MosheTreutel »

Besides Mossberg, I should say. Not that I have anything against Mossberg or am writing them off, but I want to know what all people use. As has been discussed and what I've been hearing a lot lately, Remington's quality has tanked. I've actually had some friends get Remington shotguns and have had multiple issues (usually with feeding). What I'm wanting in a good pump-action is something that I can modify to my liking (I know both the 870 and the Mossberg 500 have tons of aftermarket parts).

Are there any other shotguns that are reliable and easy to do this with? I've been hearing the Stoeger is pretty reliable, but it doesn't sound like there's a lot in the way of modifications that you can do. I also read a lot of people like the Maverick 88. Now, again, Mossberg is the most obvious alternative and I'm not neglecting that, but I want to know what else you folks would recommend.
Thank you.

Mission drives the gear, so if you could possibly give an idea of what you are wanting to do with the shotgun, this may help give an idea of what may fit your needs for making changes and upgrades. I personally set up shotguns differently for upland bird hunting, versus big game hunting, and a tactical shotgun is set up different as compared to a competition shotgun.
