Remington 870 action issue

Post by kevinpantoja »

Hello,
I just bought Remington 870. After I work the pump, I can pull it back and the breech opens like 1/2”. I know this is not normal, but can’t figure out what the problem is. Any thoughts?

Did you buy this as a new or used gun? Have you field stripped or disassembled anything, and cleaned an/or lubricated anything? Any chance you can you post a pic of what you are talking about, showing the ejection port, along with a pic of the left side of the trigger group when its doing this?

Hi Kevin,
Your Remington 870’s breech opening slightly after pumping could be due to a faulty action bar lock, incomplete cycling, or a defect in the bolt or action bars. You can try firmly racking the pump, inspect and clean the action.

Just got my Remington 870 and encountering a weird issue. After pumping, the breech only opens halfway. Feels like I'm stuck in some kind of real-life Infinite Craft scenario, trying to combine the wrong elements! Anyone familiar with this problem? Could it be a linkage issue, or something else entirely? Any advice appreciated before I take it to a gunsmith.

First, you could have posted your own thread, but, whatever.

Second, don't post gamer links in your posts. Makes me think you're here for the link, not the discussion.

Since it’s new, it’s unlikely to be wear-related, so I’d lean toward a manufacturing quirk or assembly issue.
