Dead trigger problem

Post by Herk »

I took my 870 Wingmaster out today and the trigger would just pivot but not fire the gun. The action would also not lock closed when I moved the pump forward, it would just cycle back and forth like I was holding down the action release lever. I took it home and removed the trigger group and found that the trigger would release the hammer properly when out of the gun. I then put the trigger group back in the receiver and found that everything worked properly when no barrel was installed. I then installed the barrel and the problem returned. I tried another barrel and the problem remained. If I took off the barrel nut/magazine end cap and let the barrel creep forward about 1/8" or even less, the problem went away but when I snug the barrel against the receiver the problem comes back.

I've shot this thing plenty and haven't made any mods lately. All the mods on it have been on there for years and have worked fine up until this point. Does anyone have any idea what's happened to my gun?

After closer inspection, I saw that the threaded ring that holds the forearm onto the action bars was loose. Tightening it down solved the issue. It seems that the loose forearm prevented the action from completely closing with a barrel installed.
