870 Firing Pin retainer mod????
This is my first post, you have to start somewhere.
The pin retaining the firing pin that gets hammered out from the top of the bolt can be pretty tough to get out unless you have Thors hammer with you at the time. I know a broken firing pin is rare but even if you carried one into the field you would not likely have the tools to fix it. So my question is to any smiths or machinists hanging around, how could this be modified? Could the hole be deburred/reamed and the pin deburred, shortened and be held in place via a set screw from the bottom? A small hex head set screw similar to what you keep in a drilled and tapped receiver when you do not have a scope mounted. I am sure there is some type of loc-tite that would hold it in place and be broke free with the heat of a cigarette lighter when needed. Now I must say this is a hunting gun, not a defense weapon. I would stick to the proven way it is installed from the factory in a defense weapon. Anybody have an idea?

I'm not a gunsmith so my opinion is worth less than you paid for it but I am going to go with the old adage:
"If it's not broke, don't fix it".
"If it's not broke, don't fix it".

Yeah, I agree with that statement. I was just thinking there might be a better way. Those pins sure come out easier the second time.
