Removing hammer from 870

Post by NowR2run »

Hello,

New here & Found an 870 Express Mag. in 12 gauge that I forgot I bought about 15 or so years ago ( LIKE NEW ) from the neighbor. It was in my Fathers safe because he wanted to try it out & I forgot about it.

Remington 870 Express Mag.
28" Vent Rib. Choke Tube Barrel
Aluminum Trigger Guard with Regular safety
Wood Stocked Gun

I want to make it into a Home Defense gun but first install some new springs & clean the Trigger Group Assembly up.
Dad never cleaned the gun after using it for Turkey Hunting ( AMAZINGLY HAD LITTLE RUST STARTING IN SPOTS ).

My question is, HOW DO YOU REMOVE THE HAMMER FROM THE TRIGGER ASSEMBLY ? I've tried tapping on the pin ? But it kind of looks like it's crimped over on the right side. Can't find any Videos on removing hammer for the 870. I have all kinds of GunSmithing tools so no problem there.

I don't want to BEAT ON IT, only tried it once but to me it looks like the pin is crimped over ? I'll have to take the Group out & look again but thought I would ask her, THANKS.

I haven't done it, but here is a video that includes dissassembly of the trigger mechanism. More of a breakdown/ exploded view of the parts than instructional. It might help. Starts about 1:30 in.
