The "S" at the beginning of the serial number points to a manufacture date in the 1968 - 1974 range. The "V" at the end means that the gun was originally a 12ga non-magnum (2.75" or shorter shells) model.

The date code on the barrel is tough to make out in those pictures. The last letter looks to be an "F", which as a year stamp doesn't match the serial number prefix. If the middle letter is an "X", that could point to 1973, which does match. The letter before that looks like either a "C", "O", or "G". "G" isn't a valid month letter, but "C" could mean April, or "O" could mean July.

So, best as I can tell, you have a non-magnum 12ga Wingmaster from spring or summer 1973. Remington should be able to confirm (or correct) this if you email them with your serial number. They have more detailed internal records, though their customer service department has been known to make mistakes sometimes.

Thanks for the information! And yes the pictures could be better and the stamping on the barrel could be better as well.
