Western Field 550cd Pump Shotgun

I LGS has a Western Field 550cd pump action 20-GA for pennies. It's missing a few parts, but functions fine. I understand that Mossberg made these for Montgomery Ward (man, sounding like a list of long dead retailers...). LGS-dude (very respectful) says it is a re-badged Mossberg 500. Anybody have any experience with these? Do Mossberg replacement barrels work if I wanted to add a slug barrel?

I don't know, but my gut says that they will work.

Your LGS probably has a 500 in stock.

Ask them to pull the barrel and see if it fits. That will be quick, easy, and painless.

Yea, he's a small shop. I did it one better and went ahead and ordered a slug barrel for a Mossberg 500 20-GA. I can always sell it if it doesn't fit, and my gut also says it should.
