Mystery Part

Post by Nelson502 »

Good morning from Louisville, ky

I was hoping you could help me identify a mystery part that came loose from somewhere inside my gun. I have a 1975 wingmaster magnum. The gun works fine with out it but I'd like to repair it.

I don't recognize that at all. Are you sure it came from your gun, and not from some accessory attached to it?

I'm pretty sure. I racked the gun and heard something happen inside. After that it wouldn't do a full slide so i opened it up by the trigger assembly and that gem fell out. Someone on Facebook said they thought it was a "slide guard", but there is no place anywhere on any slide that looks like it's missing a piece like this. I mean, maybe it's possible it's a foreign object, the gun seems to operate just fine without it. Should I just leave it out and move on with my life?

That is not a part from a 870. It is a Marlin SIGHT RAMP CUTAWAY HOOD. Do you have a .22 lever action Marlin? If so check it see if the hood is missing.

That's amazing!! I do have a Marlin 22. They share a gun case. Must have come off the Marlin in transit and fallen into the 870 when I switched the guns out. That is brilliant that you put that together!!! Thank you so much for the help!
