I'm thinking about getting a Speedfeed stock with 13" LOP for my new HD 870. I've been told that shortening the stock will cause more perceived recoil, as there isn't as much polymer to provide flex as there is in a standard length stock.
Anyone agree or disagree with this?

I have a Hogue short 13" LOP stock on my Rem 870 and haven't noticed change in recoil. But you will need to get used to it. For example, your thumb must be on the top of the stock. from what i've seen.... and felt.... the amount of felt recoil can be mitigated with the use of different styles and thickness recoil pads... possibly why remington puts different recoil pads on different stocks:
Remington SuperCell recoil pad for a standard stock (14" LOP) and the Remington R3 (Limbsaver) recoil pad that shipped with the "youth" stock (13" LOP).

That's good info M1. Thanks, I didn't know Remington installed different pads on their various stocks. Vitaly brought up a good point also by mentioning the need to shift the position of your thumb to avoid hitting your nose under recoil.

Yep, shortened mine to 12" LOP, and my nose is still sore...
