870 Tactical Magpul Angled foregrip

Post by xk49 »

I have an angled foregrip on my AR and would like to get one for my 870 as well. My only question is do I need to add a picatinny rail to the bottom of the stock foregrip or can I attach it directly? I've attached a picture of someone's gun that has the angled grip I'm interested in and it doesn't look like its on a rail. Do they make one that mounts without a rail?

Also, if I do have to add a picatinny rail to the bottom of the stock Magpul fore grip, will all rails work? Just concerned with any mounting issues with the sliding issue of the pump.

I have that exact setup. You do have to use a 3" rail section to use an AF1, or AF2 grip. However, Magpul now has a keymod type grip which only need a thin adapter to mount to an MOE forend.

I like the angled foregrip on ARs, but there's no way I'd put one on a sliding forend.

WHY ? (only asking)

Appears to be a better angle to actuate the Forend Sliding Motion !

Because youre adding an angle where there doesn't need to be an angle. You won't be able to cycle the pump action as aggressively, and you won't be able to grip the forend as solidly.

Also, moving the grip away from the magazine tube turns any lateral force into a torque when the fore-end is cycled. Heavily-used pump shotguns with vertical fore-end grips have a tendency to end up with twisted action bars. Angled grips don't provide quite as long a moment arm as other add-on grips, but they can have the same effect.
