Greetings from Philadelphia
What's up Rem870?
I'm a new owner and shooter from Philadelphia PA the city of Brotherly Love.
I'm a 34 year old family man working full time and doing the daddy thing when I'm not doing the 9-5 grind. The wife and I have been talking a lot since we got hitched in January, about getting a weapon for the home. After a lot of research and debate we went ahead with a Remington 870 Express Synthetic tactical. So far we've put about 50 rounds through it and it is an amazing instrument.
We've both been shooting many times in our lives but were never owners. Being from PA, we live around a great Deer Hunting community and have reaped the benefits of knowing hunters and partaking in their hunts.
As of now we are just becoming comfortable with the Rem, practicing safe handling and care first and going through practice with loading and unloading (with inert shells) when we can.
I stumbled on this site from user Synchronizer (spelling?) and his Youtube videos. Just a shout out to him, there are a lot of videos out there but his are by far the most informative around in covering all basics and elaboration of anything 870.
I'll be around with lots of questions I'm sure because our new 870 is definitely a great purchase for us and we are already looking to maybe another one in the near future.
Peace
Justin

Welcome to our little corner of the internets. Which 870 model did you folks pick up?

Re: Greetings from Philadelphia
oh yeah. .
we bought the Express Tactical 7 round synthetic. The salesman almost got us into a meaner looking tactical with a breech choke and the ghost rings but it was a little overkill for us ATM.
Looking to maybe hook up with some friends who go turkey hunting and get some experience in the field.

Yeah, I also prefer the simpler fixed-choke, bead-sight setup for HD. Cool points aside, that tactical choke only makes the gun longer, and a bead is simple, fast, plenty accurate within the effective range of buckshot, and doesn't require a receiver-mounted rear element that interferes with the sights on other barrels.
Is your 870 built on a standard receiver, or is it one of the newer Tactical models with the single-piece 6-round magazine tube? If it's the latter, you can't swap on a hunting barrel without custom work.

Not quite sure. The gun basically looks like your standard 1960's police shotgun just all black. nothing fancy, but it does have the single 6 shot mag tube and its a "fixed cylinder choke". No extension.
My spring retainer is the plastic one with dimples? I've read that this design can be hectic if I wanted to add an extender or change the follower. Right now I can't see needing more capacity.
As far as upgrades go, I'd like to do a side saddle, add a strap/bandolier and maybe play with the safety.

This should illustrate what I'm talking about:

The type of magazine tube has no effect on the compatibility of side saddles, safety switches, or slings. All it really affects is barrel interchangeability.

Thanks for the visuals. That really clears up a lot of questions when compared with other models.
