Hello from Port Saint Lucie, FL

Post by gen2tegboi »

Hi, new proud owner of a 870 express 12 gauge synthetic black. Third firearm and first shotgun for me. I recently took the interest in owning a shotgun after visiting an outdoor pistol shooting range, and ended up trying out sporting clays for $17 (25 rds, 25 clays, and lender 870 express) after shooting the pistols. needless to say I fell in love with the shotgun and the sport. I know its not the best shotgun (pump) for clays, but good enough for me. It will also serve for home defense, and heck one day maybe hunt, I don't know.

for now I need to learn more about shotguns in general before I proceed to learning about any of the activities. right now is not even assembled yet as I want to clean and lube it before doing so.

I need to go buy some cleaning supplies. any recommendations? I'm thinking Remington oil in spray, hoppes solvent (already have some), a 12 gauge brush and longer rod, cotton patches. did I miss anything? or recommend something different?

ammo? my indoor range only allows 00 buck or slugs. I am aware that I cannot shot slugs through this without a rifled slug barrel, but I am ok to shoot 00 buckshot through my stock 870 express right? so what brand do you guys use?

seems like a big introduction post, but I want to get everything out the way (newbie questions) now, and enjoy a good time here in the forum as well with my new toy.

Thank,

Juan

Remington oil spray or Ballistol, Brunox, Gunnex or any other oil.

You still can shoot slugs through smooth bore barrel. There are different slugs for smooth and for rifled barrels. Most of the 12 gauge slugs are for smooth bore barrels.

Welcome gen2tegboi from another newbie. I have the same 870 configuration. Cheers, Dennis.
