Pin Tool

Wanted to share something that just about anyone can do regarding making your own pin removal tool. I know that there are tools that you can buy to do this; I just like to re-purpose stuff if I can. And the idea of using an allan key to push the pins makes me cringe (just slightly).

This was an old screwdriver that has been rattling around in the junk drawer for a good, long time. Broken blade, bent shaft. Cut off the bad with a dremel and reshaped/polished the tip. Put on rubber o-ring to make a cushioned stop. Fits the pin detents and works great for a no-mar removal.

I never felt the need to shell out for an "official gunsmith" pin-pusher tool either. I just picked up a scratch awl at my local hardware store that does the exact same thing for something like $6. I've seen similar tools on Amazon for just a few bucks. It works pretty well as a general-use punch for other pins in my firearms as well.

The O-ring is a good idea. For a wider-handled tool like mine, a rubber fender washer could be another way to do the same thing.
