If limited to only one change, it would be improving/replacing/fail-proofing the stock follower. Seven in the tube won't do much good if that single component takes a dump and your having to feed one at a time. For me, that piece is really the only weak link in the 870 chain.

As to what I've actually done to suit the 870 to my taste, I've only done a limited number of alterations to the original platform: extended magazine tube, improved barrel/mag clamp, Vang Comp follower. For the foreseeable future, those limited changes suit my needs just fine.

A solid training course. If I don't know how to work the B?!*& like a supersoaker, it's simply a fancy paperweight. As for part, I'd say either a jumbo safety or a spare mag spring. If it ain't fed, I'm dead.

The Remington 870 can be efficiently loaded and fired as a single-shot. Just sayin'. ;)
