Extractor Issues with Barrel Notch

Post by Grove56 »

I have a 870 Express Magnum with an extractor that has been giving me some trouble. Specifically, it will not line up properly with the notch on the barrel. When I rack a round the extractor will jam against the notch and the bolt will not shut flush with the barrel and leaves a small gap. The weird thing about it is that it doesn't not happen all the time, maybe 75% but if I flip the gun horizontal with the action facing down the guns works like a charm. Go figure.

Not sure if I need to replace the extractor or barrel or what but any input would be appreciated as this is not an issue that seems to be common.

I might be really off here, but did you check if your ejector and/or ejector spring is broken?

Yes. Both are fine.

Pictures would help.

Have you checked the extractor spring? A worn or broken extractor spring could give the extractor enough movement to hang up on the barrel.
