870 drill and tap screw up question

Post by parkerdanny16 »

Trying to install ghost ring sights on my 870 I drilled the rear hole too far back and cut into the circle at the very back of the receiver. I have since filled the drill holes with a tig but cannot get to the cut. My question is will this do any harm and any suggestions for filling it? Thanks in advance.

I'm not quite sure what you're asking, and I can't really tell anything from that picture. If you're concerned about leaving a hole back there, I don't think that will hurt function, but there might be structural issues. If you have some weld sticking down, that could interfere with the bolt, or damage it over time. Again, a clearer picture would be helpful.

I did this on a 870 with Scatter Gun Technologies Ghost sights. I measured where the holes had to go according to the installation instructions and the rear hole came right where yours is. It does not affect function.
