Well, I've decided to start another one of my crazy 870 projects. For those of you who haven't seen the last one I made, it's at the bottom of the page in the 870 pictures thread here: http://www.rem870.com/forum/viewtopic.p ... &start=240
That one was an attempt at a combination home defense/long range platform, and it's still one of my favorites. This new 870 project is going to be long range only. For whatever reason, I have a fascination with firing shotguns at long range, and my goal is to get this build to hit targets consistently at least 300 yards out.
The base gun will be an 870 Express Tactical, and I will be swapping out the 18.5" cylinder bore barrel for a 20" fully rifled barrel. I am going to have to remove the front and rear rifle sights from the barrel in order to install the other parts of this project.
Some of the parts will be the same as the previous project. I will again be using the AIM Sports Quad Rail with side saddle, Streamlight TLR-1, +3 round extension tube, and GG&G enhanced follower. I will not, however, be using the Knoxx Tactical Stock. I am going to replace it with a Harris Tactical LEO AR-15 tube adapter, a DPMS A2 rifle length buffer tube, and a Magpul PRS Gen II stock, and Magpul MIAD grip. The forend will be a Mapgul MOE with vertical grip. I am replacing the NcSTAR bipod with a Tango Down bipod. For the muzzle brake, I've decided to go with a Grizzly Gunworks DEFCON 1. Optics will be Leupold 3-9 x 50 Mil-Dot with a quick detach rail mount. I haven't quite decided which way to go with the visible/IR laser combo yet, as there are quite a few good models out there.
The base gun, quad rail, and scope will be black. Everything else is flat dark earth.
Ammunition will be both Remington Premiere Accu-Tip Bonded Sabot Slugs at ~ 2000 FPS, and Hornady SST Sabot Slugs at ~ 2000 FPS.
Hopefully everything goes well and I can start posting some pics of the build in progress.
