Grew up on shotguns and it's still my favorite arm. Haven't owned a Remington for the last 15 years. The other day I walked past the gun counter at one of my hangouts and low and behold there sat a Remington 870 Police dressed up looking like a Wilson Combat version. Well needless to say my wallet jumped out of my pocket and it's mine now. Been wanting one of these things for many years and just wouldn't go all out for the Wilson. But man I am about as happy as can be. The 870 was my first pump back in 1976, owned it for years and then sold it when times got tight. I have to say that was one of the biggest mistakes I ever made in my life. So I have now set that record straight as I pick it up and it's just natural in the hands.
Anyway, looking forward to reading through the forums

Re: Hello from Alaska
Welcome to the forum.
I lived in Alaska for a good chunk of my childhood, down in Ketchikan. What part of The Last Frontier do you hail from?

Hey Synchronizer that is pretty close to where I use to be. I was a VPSO down in Kasaan on Prince of Walles Island. 32 air miles from you. Ha small world!!! I now live up in Wasilla and I'm going to retire in June. The wife and I are heading somewhere but staying here. Been in Alaska for 30 years now and, well it's home and this is where I'm going to hang my hat until I need to take the great walk across the tundra.Synchronizor wrote:Welcome to the forum.

Re: Hello from Alaska
Yes I do!!! I'll carry one with me just about everywhere I can. Fits real good across the gun rack on the 4-wheeler. Goes for a ride in the Jeep and on hikes. The 870 is just one of those natural guns that feels more like a companion than anything else. On the trails up here it is not uncommon to cross paths with Brown, Grizz or Black bear and not to mention the most encountered varmit the Moose. If that Moose is a mom and there be a couple calves around she can be REAL mean. So again the 12ga rules. I haven't shot to kill out of hunting season but I will and do fire a warning shot first. I have used the 12ga hunting down on the islands in South East Alaska though (Sitka Blacktail Deer). The vegitation is so dense that the shotgun is idea for a multitude of things.Vitaly wrote:RussMo, welcome to the forum! Do you hunt with your 870?
