870 express, 3in ejector sheared rim of shell. HELP
took a nice deer down today, racked new round, when i unloaded i noticed the round that chambered came out with a notch sheared backwards, the exact width of the ejector, brenneke black magic 3in slug, i have never had issues with this round nor the gun. i dont notice a difference about the ejector visually speaking. i have not been able to duplicate. dont know if it was just a bad round? its like a can opener peeled it back to a 90 degree angle.

One of shooters had such a problem on one of my trainings:shawnbostock wrote:sorry about the picture didnt know it would display so large, just finished processing the deer, should have washed hands lol.

Usually, that happens with reloaded shotshells and rough chamber. Polishing chamber may help.

I assume you're talking about the extractor, not the ejector.
Had the torn shell been fired?

Steel-based shotshells can hang up in chambers after firing, usually due to some combination of poor ammo quality, excessive internal pressure (if a shell was not loaded correctly), or a rough chamber. However, if you had an unfired shell stick so hard that the extractor tore through the rim, and you've used that same load in your gun previously without any issues, it's a strong indication that that particular shell was simply defective.

I have the same issue with hornaday slugs. They don’t always have to have been fired.
