New Member With New Rem870 with Goodies

Post by mont0307 »

As a devoted Glock Man for CCW and home defense due to its proven reliability in my battery of test without having a single minute on a gunsmith's table, I traded a Kimber Custom Tactical HD II/.45 on a new Remington 870 tactical with factory 6 shot factory magazine tube (1 in chamber) and a new Diamondback .380 (for my wife) and $340.00 in store credit. I immediately took the shotgun to the range and ran 60 rounds through it with the oversight of a friend that is a law enforcement officer (since I was shooting a shotgun for the first time), 20 - #4 (cleaning after every 10), 20 - #00 Buck (cleaning after 20), and then 20 - slugs and cleaning once I got home. The shotgun ran perfectly and I am confident in promoting it to starting left-tackle protecting my home.
I have since taken that $340.00 credit (and then some) and screwed and attached a few accessories to the gun and I think I have gone a little overboard; but, I will get a chance in the near future to see if these items actually enhance the gun or prove that I've gone a little "Hollywood" and wasted my money. Listed below is a rundown of what I've purchased with pictures.

1. ATI strike-force collapsible and folding stock with forend - $89.99 - Could not use the forend because the adapter would not stop the forend from binding against the slide-stop. Should not have purchased the collapsible stock as my large hand feels squashed against the folding point. Will either purchase an ATI grip that eliminates the folding point or go with a Magpul buttstock once I have the opportunity to hold one and rule it in or out.
2. AimTech Warhammer rail - $84.33 - Easy install - would have been very easy if I had 3 hands.
3. Tuff-Zone AR-15 flip-up rear sight - $19.99
4. Leapers UTG AR-15 low profile front sight - $19.99
5. Wilson Combat - Plus-One magazine extension - $59.99 - Comes with new spring and high visibility follower - You have to drill out the dimples in the magazine tube that secured the old spring retainer and carefully grind down the raised metal in the magazine tube with a barrel stone with a dremel in order to get the new follower in the tube.
6. Cross-Point Green Laser with pressure switch - $59.99 - The pressure switch works flawlessly; however, the push button cap for some reason does not seat properly and does not always turn on. Easy to zero to the sights. Will now have to zero sights to barrel and re-adjust.
7. Sight-Mark 260 Lumens Weapons Light with pressure switch $79.99 - Do not look directly into light when fiddling with the pressure switch if it is your first time ever having a do-hicky like this one has. Still have a slight headache 12 hours later.

Total - $414.27; out of pocket $74.27.

The only things I want is a muzzle break, sling point, and to sort out the grip or get a new buttstock and it will be finished.

If anything, it looks mean as you know what. Will add pictures in replies

mont0307, nice setup! Did you have a chance to test it on the range?

Yes I have tested it. I put 20 rounds through it and the accessories all functioned just fine. The gun gets very heavy though as I purposely aimed, shot, down to high ready position (always pointing forward), aim, shot, and then reloaded still holding gun in high ready position. I wanted to see what a person who would carry it on duty would feel like if they had to carry it without a sling.

Hopefully 6 months is not too long to revive this with a question.

How is the height of warhammer plus sights working out for you? I have a mesa urbino stock with the adjustable cheek pad and I have been stuck on which rail mounted sights to get.

How do you like that ATI Stock? I have a Mesa Urbino, a Magpul SGA, and a Mako Recoil-Reducing folding collapsible stock. Yes i went overboard with buying stocks for my 870, i meant to sell the ones i wasnt using, but they are all such good stocks i decided to keep them. I have my Mesa Urbino mounted and is my fav stock for normal use. My point is, if you're not happy with the ATI and want a folding stock, Mako FAB Defense is the best. Otherwise, the Magpul is an awesome and comfortable stock as is the Urbino. You mentioned you wer'nt sure about your stock, i thought i'd give you some suggestions about replacements, ones that i can definitely vouch for. I like that Warhammer rail, it looks great and is a great way to add sights. Mesa makes a similar one with a 6 rd sidesaddle attatched, and i'm considering buying that, but it's pricey. Anyway, nice looking 870!

Definitely really like the Magpul stock also. If your looking for a pistol grip style I would also recommend the Mesa Tactical Urbino LoL. And as I said I ordered the Mesa 6 shot saddle/heatshield/20" rail and its very nice and sturdy have run probably 100 slugs through it and it hasn't nudged and I have not even used blue loc tite yet. Would def recommend.

If you're looking for a single sling point, go to MidawayUSA.com. They sell several of them at good prices, made for any 870/stock combo. They sell GG+G, Mako and several others. If you were to change stocks and get like a Mesa Urbino Tactical, they sell one to go with that stock for like $12.00, ditto for the Magpul SGA Stock. Blackhawk spec ops stocks come with a single point sling point too (but i'm not crazy about Blackhawk stocks) . Can you tell i'm a Mesa fan--lol. Just something to consider. If you were talking about a front sling point, check out Amazon, Midway, Brownells. Hope that helps.
