This shotgun has been run over by a Jeep, dropped over the side of a boat, and immersed in a mud bog. Rinsed it
off, cleaned it up, and still works like a Champ.

Sounds like a solid piece of family history you’ve got there. With the RE barrel code and the D‑prefix serial, it should date to the early 2000s. Remington’s charts can be confusing, but that combo generally lines up with that period. Amazing that the gun’s been through all that abuse and still runs classic 870 toughness.
