I got a Remington 870 back in 2019 and I’m unhappy with it because it isn't functioning great. I heard that they took a nose dive in quality in the early 2000s when Remington was trying to cut costs.
I was thinking about trying to find a used one to replace it from back when Remington was producing better quality 870s.
What is the last year that Remington was producing good quality Remington 870s? Late 1990s?
Has anyone run the new production Remington 870 fieldmasters hard (like 500+ rounds) and been happy with them?
I am almost at the point where I think I will switch to Mossberg…
Last year for good quality Remington 870?

Re: Last year for good quality Remington 870?
As for the newer Fieldmasters, I’ve seen some decent feedback—RemArms seems to be trying to bring the quality back up since they restarted production in 2020. But long-term reliability is still a question mark for many. If you’re running 500+ rounds and depending on it for serious use, a used older 870 or even switching to a Mossberg 500/590 might not be a bad call. The Mossbergs are definitely no-frills, but they’ve earned a rep for being tanks.
