Re: 870 Express Dimple Removal - I done fucked up!
I got a 4+1 870 tactical last week and have been trying to decide which method I was going to use to remove the detents from the magazine tube. I have gone back and fourth, talked to Remington and gunsmiths and read every article and watched every you tube video I could find. Finally I decided to drill them out and I am very glad I did. It was quick and easy with no scary moments and it cost me exactly zero. I'm glad the OP was able to ultimately get the tool out of the magazine.

I used the XS dimple removal tool. Greased up good with Lucas red and tacky and followed the directions. It went well and was able to remove the slug by hand.

My brownels dent riser tool got stuck in my Remington 870 magazine tube.
I inserted the tool properly and tapped it in past the detents. It took effort to get it though. At my last tap, I hit a little to hard and the tool entered the receiver. It was about an inch into the receiver. It was stuck and not budging.
The problem was allowing the tool to go too far past the detents.
Since it got stuck, I removed the trigger assembly and stock, barrel was already removed. I then got a long socket extension. I put a socket on it that was large enough to grip the end of the dent riser and small enough to enter the magazine tube. I had the socket firmly held on the tool and carefully slammed the tool, with extension firmly connected to the dent riser tool, on a solid wood platform on the floor. Once the dent riser left the receiver, it was able to rotate and I could easily remove it. I should have marked the recesses on the tool so I could see where to rotate, but it was easy enough to do blind.
I hope this helps.
