I have never considered...push feed or controlled round feed

Post by Jimshoots »

I am a new gunsmithing student and the question was posed by a fellow student and it triggered an assignment for the class. Is the Remington870 a push feed design or controlled round feed? And why? I understand the concept as applied to rifles, but have never entertained the thought in shotguns. I have not found anything in my searches. Any thoughts would provide insight. Thanks

My guess would be push-feed as the round is not tightly controlled like a Mauser claw does. No prof in the class has an answer?

The other argument for "push feed" is because one of the first things 870-ish we all learn is to turn it over and shake a shell or shell hull out. If it was controlled round, you couldn't do that unless the claw-extractor has failed to grab the rim.
