Stock refinishing

Post by Donzi16 »

Good Afternoon. Looking for information on stripping the finish off my Left hand 870. Tried a spray on stripper with no luck. Even after 24 hrs. Also would like to lighten up the stock & fore arm handle as they are to dark.any ideas on a light stain? Any info greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Birchwood-Casey makes a complete line of gunstock refinishing stuff. Available at most gun shops or online. Dye color? Well, that's just what looks good to your eye.

Thank you for the information. I'll try to find this kit at local gun store & on line. Your right about stain color. I'll get it stripped & see what's appealing. Thanks again.

Almost any hardware store has wood stripper, depends just whether you want non-toxic, all-natural, or heavy-duty-so-toxic has to be done outside. Lots of it smells awful. I think last time I used some "orange citrus-based" stripper and it worked well. Just don't rush, and don't scrape too hard to gouge the stock wood.
