Hello Everyone,
I’m new to the site but not the firearms world. I recently purchased a nib 870 express (believed to be a 2019 manufacture) that will be a hunting gun in season, and a home defense gun the rest of the time. I currently have a Remington 28” barrel and a Mossberg 18.5” made for the 870. While inspecting the barrel I noticed that the inlet for the extractor and the breech face are pretty chewed up. I’d like to smooth it all out but I’m not sure what is the best way and if the extractor inlet (not sure if that’s the technical term) is going to be an issue with the burrs.
TLDR: how can I smooth out my 870 barrel at the breech and extractor inlet.
Rough Mossberg barrel for 870
Re: Rough Mossberg barrel for 870
Use a Dremel tool with either sanding discs or burr grinders to smooth out that rough area, and then polish it up for a smoother action. The question is: does it interfere any with the shotgun's action working back and forth? Or perhaps just too loose tolerances on parts machining?

Re: Rough Mossberg barrel for 870
Thank you for the response. I’ve tested it with dummy rounds and everything seems fine, smooth feeding and ejection. I was just concerned with the roughness.
Re: Rough Mossberg barrel for 870
The roughness doesn't appear to affect the part, just a curvature findings it's "own home". Smooth it out and polish it, but don't remove too much metal.
