I don’t know why, but i do know all 870 barrel support rings are not the same hight. I first noticed it when a started making front sling mounts, some guns the mount would be loose and rattle and on others it would be tight . I first thought it was due to barrel diameter , but after measuring a dozen or so barrels i found there are two different center lines. The receivers are all the same dimension and only the front ring are different. Some barrels center lines do not run parallel with the center line of the magazine tubes. It may be the way Remington moved the point of impact on shorter barrels. I have some pictures here somewhere that clearly shows the different rings hight.
So they are both correct depending the barrel you have.

Well I’m annoyed, I ordered the bracket and it came quick enough ... but ...
1. It seems to be parkerized instead of blued.
2. It has the wrong spacing and is just a bit short (as a prior post mentioned)
Anyway it’s on the gun for the moment , but I’ll need to look for something else.
I’m also rethinking my light mount a little as it’s a side mounted light and it kinda keeps the gun from slipping into the case smoothly, under mag would be better, but it’s a minor thing.
I have a Clamp/Mount called a CDM BMT Mount. It would work well for what you need. It has a small Pic Rail on it, and it has a hole on the other side for QD sling swivels. You should see if they still make them, I love mine. I'm using a Nordic extension tube and Nordic clamp right now, but I'm glad I have the CDM BMT for a spare.
Due to the increased price of ammo, don't expect a warning shot...

The light bracket I have I can get an optional part to add on to it for a sling mount. Couple things I’m not sure about is it would put the sling loop on the right side of the gun (seems odd) or if I flip the bracket, mount would be on the left a light would be on the right side .. which seems awkward or operate to me.
... but I was hoping to have the sling mount under the tube , not on the side as the sling ring on the stock is on bottom edge, so it just seems to make more sense to have the front ring located under and not on the side making the sling twist.
After still more research and hunting, I’ve discovered there is indeed two versions of the same bracket.
There’s a 2004 to present bracket and there’s a Pre-2004 bracket.
The part that really kills me though is the $41.00 price and another $6.23 for the screw ! I didn’t find the nut, but I’m sure it’s just as bad.
Aftermarket parts are pricey, but they at least look like they are worth the price.

My humble opinion is you have the light in the right spot. More specifically, you have the actuation button in just the right spot. I'd prefer the light under the mag to minimize shadow to the right but until someone makes a dogleg shaped light one must make a decision. Having the button in the right spot is of paramount importance.
