I got a Weaver multi slot base mount for my 870. Mine is not tapped, so I need the screw size to tap it. Screws came with the base.
I have done this before, but it was a long time ago...
Thanks for any help.

Threatd size for 870 tapped reciever
Re: Threatd size for 870 tapped reciever
What size screws came with the base? Usually there is a chart that for such-and-such a screw, you drill with a #xx drill-bit and then tap for that certain screw. We can't help w/o knowing what screw size came with the scope base.

If your rail was designed specifically for the 870 that came tapped from factory then yes, the screws that came with the rail SHOULD be correct for a factory hole pattern.
If the rail is a generic section then I'd not install it because I wouldn't want a non-standard hole size or pattern on my shotgun. It limits your options if you ever want to change mounts. Or you add even more holes.
I dont know the factory hole size or pattern yet but I'm installing a Scalarworks Sync low profile mount for Trijicon RMR that uses factory pattern. Had receiver previously been drilled for a generic rail, I may have encountered issues with hole overlap and "Swiss cheese" results.

Weaver bases generally use 8-40 screws. Should measure 0.160-.0164 diameter
