I recently purchased an 870 Police 6+1 Model #24447. I would like to do some simple upgrade.
So far I have decided on a Scattergun Technologies over-sized safety. My main question is: what should I look at for a magazine spring and follower? I would appreciate part numbers if you have a specific item to recommend.
Any other recommendations on typical upgrades to these shotguns are appreciated!
Upgrades for 870 Police
Re: Upgrades for 870 Police
Not to tell you how to live your life, but, realistically there isn't a whole lot about them that you're going to need the change. This stock may not be to your liking, and that is okay. The oversized safety is not necessarily a bad idea. As far as changing Springs, followers, you need to be kind of careful with that. There are far too many aftermarkets out there that will end up doing a lot more harm than good. My best piece of advice to you, is shoot it for a little while, and see what really you do and don't like about it. If it malfunctions, or there's something that you absolutely can't stand, okay. That's what you can change. Otherwise, you have a rather solid the piece of equipment there.
Re: Upgrades for 870 Police
Frankly, when most of us "upgrade" our 870's we go to the Police magazine spring. You don't get much better than that. Another question is "why upgrade"? Are you having reliability problems, or do you just think that because something is sold as an upgrade, that you need to upgrade? Fact is Remmie build's 'em good, to start with.

Re: Upgrades for 870 Police
Personally I’d drop in an aluminum follower and a Valquartsen extractor. Then go with a light and Mesa Tactical shell holder. I’d take the trigger group out and see if they still use the police sear spring (heavy, orange in color) and the 1100 carrier spring or verify through Remington and call it a day.
Re: Upgrades for 870 Police
I think the police models already have a machined extractor.
Re: Upgrades for 870 Police
Careful about aftermarket followers and other stuff. Yes the Police extractor still is machined. Side saddles, make sure you install correctly, lots of reported problems if the screws that replace TG pins are overtightened. Go minimal if at all, it's a lovely piece as is.

Re: Upgrades for 870 Police
Hi im looking for a Remington OEM +2 magazine extension with a blued finish.
Re: Upgrades for 870 Police
Yeah, the Volquartsen is much prettier, but is the Remington OEM part somehow functionally inferior?Germansheperd wrote: ↑Tue Jul 14, 2020 12:51 pmA Remington machined extractor and a Volquartsen extractor are not even close.
