Winchester SXP Defender Trigger Group assembly Problems

Post by Heat »

Hi everyone, this is my first post in the forum, i hope i can post more in the future about updates and range reports if i can find more time for it.

I got a brand new Sxp defender with 20" barrel and 7 capacity magtube with fixed choked slug barrel couple days ago and yesterday i tested it with 28-34 grain slugs without any problem,i shot 150 rounds( approximently )
Only issue that i experienced the 20" barrel likes 32gr and above slug loads for accurate shots, anything lower than 32gr can shoot 5 to 10 inches high at 40 yards. 32gr and above are dead accurate at the same distance.

After first range visit, i noticed that the trigger group is slightly loose and it wobbles

When i grip the trigger guard i can wiggle the assembly side to side when the bolt closed/foward position.
Also whole trigger group can play side to side when its dissassembled, that i tried to show in the second video.

It functions without any problem rightnow , but i am not sure how its gonna play in long term use and after higher round counts,

For the videos;

Thank you.

I'd call the manufacturer and ask them if that's normal, 870s sometimes have side to side jiggle ever so slight but it's normal, these are often the tolerances in mass-produced, non-hand fit weapons. But since it could be out of spec, call the appropriate customer service number and see what they say.

Looking at your videos it has more play than my Remington trigger group, but again that may be within spec for Winnie. Check for missing retainers or other parts by consulting an exploded view parts diagram. If everything is accounted for, you're probably good to go. But talk to customer service to be sure. And keep those screwdrivers and other metal tools away from that shotgun, you are asking to mar the finish...that's an anodized aluminum receiver, no way to touch that up...
